Rolland "Pappy" Howard Painter, 87, of Newark, died Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was born April 22, 1938 in London, OH to the late Howard B. and Grace L. (Sheron) Painter.

Pappy was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He worked at Newark Asphalt which became Kokosing for nearly 40 years. He enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden, camping, spending time with grandchildren, watching old westerns, and always looked forward to his daily bowl of ice cream.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Shirley; children, Janet Jones, Karen (Doug) Ream, Joan (Lou) Cook, Robert (Sue) Holton, Becky (Bryan) Fitzpatrick and Jason (Lisa) Painter; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; siblings, Curt (Geri) Painter, Phil (Jo) Painter and Margaret (Virgil) Morgan; sister-in-law, Sharron Painter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, John Sheron, Bill Painter, Richard Painter and Jim Painter.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2025 from 4-6 pm at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark where the funeral service will follow at 6:00 pm. Military honors will be presented by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
