Ruth Evelyn Elliott

A funeral service for Ruth Evelyn Elliott, 89, of Newark will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 16, 2024, at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, with Pastors Tim Carr and Jim Waugh officiating.  A burial will follow at Wilson Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 2024, at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St. Newark.

Ruth went to be with her Lord on February 12, 2024, passing at Willow Brook Christian Village in Delaware, Ohio. She was born February 11,1935, in Utica, OH, to the late Harry and May (Callan) Keckley. She loved her devoted husband Jim deeply for 65 years, cared for her family passionately, and was a servant of Christ in her church, Northside Baptist.

Ruth was a graduate of Homer High School and valedictorian of the class of 1954.  Ruth began a 30+ year career shortly after high school as secretary for the superintendent of Licking County Board of Education. Her perfection of spelling was unmatched. Her spelling gift was exercised often by all her family throughout life and will be "greatly missed"!

Ruth loved sharing time with her treasured sisters and brothers, long time club fans of 60+ years, and church family.  Ruth was a well-known cook with her specialties of Texas sheet cake, cookies, green jello, and pies at many church potlucks, dinners, and Keckley reunions. Her grandchildren will greatly miss her perfectly cooked, crispy edge pancakes as well.

Her hobbies included gardening ("weeding the hill"), homemaking perfection, re-decorating and then re-decorating some more, traveling with Jim, and adventures with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband, James S. Elliott, Jr.; children Cheryl (David) Steele and Gregory (Jeannette) Elliott: brothers, Vernon Keckley and Harvey (Eleanor) Keckley: grandchildren, Benjamin (Emily) Steele, Abryney and Elyssa Steele: great-grandchildren, Lucy Rose and Elliott James Steele, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Wayne and Dwight Keckley: sisters, Edna White, Faye Carpenter, and Hazel Harvey, and sister-in-law, Jane Hoar.

Most importantly, she loved the Lord and believed completely … "But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Matthew 6:33.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Northside Baptist Church, American Heart Association, or Heartland Hospice.
