Obituary

Sarah Ann (Slater) Gill, age 90, of Newark, passed away peacefully at her home Thursday, June 11, 2026. She was born in Murray City, Ohio on February 18, 1936, to the late William Edward and Mary (Hopes) Slater.

Sarah lived life rooted in her faith and was a long-time member of the Heath Church of Christ and Northside Church of Christ. She taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible school, attended Women’s Bible studies and enjoyed preparing meals and volunteering at church.

Sarah was a devoted and loving homemaker. She dedicated her life to her family as it was her greatest happiness. Whether she was hosting a family gathering, cheering at sport events, or simply offering a listening ear, her family devotion was absolute and unconditional.

Her social life was full and a joy to her. Always considered to be a woman of integrity and kindness, she maintained lifelong friendships. She was an avid card player and remained active in several card clubs. In addition, Sarah was a former member of the historical Owens Corning Fiberglas social auxiliary group, the “Owenettes”.

Sarah is survived by her daughters, Teresa (Dick Dunlap) Rine and Jo (Steve) Jacobson; granddaughters, Nicole (Eric), Caitlin and Paige; great-granddaughters, Alexis and Adison; great-great granddaughter, Oaklinn; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, George D. Gill; a son, Dennis Gill; siblings, Nalda Culver, Tom Slater, Charles Slater, Paul Slater and Shirley Channell; and companion, Lewis Unternaher.

Visitation will be held from 11am - 1pm Thursday, June 18, 2026, with a 1pm funeral service at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N 21st St, Newark, Ohio 43055. A graveside service at Newark Memorial Gardens will take place immediately following the funeral service, Pastor Dave Mason officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sarah’s memory may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Rd, SE, Newark, Ohio 43055.
