Sherman Taylor Adkins, Jr., 71 of Newark passed away on October 23, 2026 at his residence. He was born on January 5, 1955 in Newark, OH to the late Sherman Taylor and Susan May (Kean) Adkins, Sr.

Sherman dedicated 31 years of hard work and service to his family’s trash business, Big “O” Refuse/Adkins Disposal. Outside of work, he enjoyed bowling, farming, and horseback riding. Above all else, Sherman cherished his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Darlene P. (Linger) Adkins; daughter, Nova (Tyler) Willey; 3 grandchildren, Sidney Willey, Katelyn Adkins and Kirsten (Austin) Hankinson; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings, Ralph (Georgia) Adkins, Karen Adkins and Hank (Marcia) Adkins; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Sherman Taylor Adkins III; siblings, Sharon Adkins, William Adkins and Kevin Adkins.

Memorial calling hours will be held from 5-8pm on Friday, October 30, 2026 at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark.
