Obituary

Susan Elaine (Sitler) Kahle was adored by her family and friends for her adventurous, charitable, fiery, thoughtful, and loving spirit. Susan passed away on February 22, 2024, at the Avalon on Main in Lewis Center, Ohio, after a devastating nine-year battle with Alzheimer's.

Susan was born on July 31, 1960, in Newark, Ohio, to Guy and Joan Sitler. Growing up, Susan enjoyed spending summer days with her horse (Herbie), golfing, and trapshooting. Susan was an excellent trapshooter and often went on trips to compete in shoots in other states with her mother, who was also an All-American trapshooter. She finished 3rd in the Ohio State Junior Trapshooting Handicap in 1974, and (much to the chagrin of her brother) won the Sitler family golf championship on several occasions. Susan graduated from Newark High School in 1978, where she lettered in volleyball. She went on to graduate from Wittenberg University in 1982 with a major in geology, following in her father's and brother's footsteps. She also completed some graduate studies in geology at Bowling Green State University.

Susan dedicated much of her adult life to raising two amazing children, tending to a stunning garden season after season, cheering on the Buckeyes, making incredible meals, skiing and golfing with her family, and loving on her canine companions Jake, Hunter, Kobey, and Gunner. She also went back to get a paralegal degree from Columbus State Community College, graduating with honors in 2012.

While Alzheimer's robbed Susan of what should have been some of the best years of her life, those who loved her will remember the best versions of her: her red hair blowing wildly in the wind whenever she drove her 1930 Model A convertible with the top down; the smile that lit up her face when in the presence of her family; and the care and attention she poured into raising and showing up to support her children's every endeavor, from keeping the scorebooks for her daughter's volleyball games to being a guest speaker for her son's science classes.

Susan leaves behind her beloved children, Cameron and Justin Kahle; her devoted brother, Gary (Penny) Sitler; and an array of nieces and nephews who adored her.
