Suzanne Hoops Schmid, 80, a lifelong resident of Newark, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Licking Memorial Hospital. She was born on February 8, 1946, in Newark to the late Thomas and Vera (Landerman) Hoops.

Suzanne dedicated more than 30 years of her life to teaching with Newark City Schools, where she touched the lives of countless students and was proud to be part of the community she called home. She was also involved in various community organizations and always enjoyed being active and connected with those around her. Suzanne especially treasured time spent with her family and friends. She loved traveling and making memories with those she loved, with vacations to the beach holding a special place in her heart. Above all, she cherished her family and the time they shared together.

She is survived by her children, Kathy (Jeff) Youskievicz and Keith (Hillary) Schmid; grandchildren, Tristan and Aidyn Youskievicz and Avery, Brennen and Braxton Schmid.

In addition to her parents, Suzanne was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David F. Schmid; and her granddaughter, Zane Suzanne Schmid.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio.

A memorial visitation will be held Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark.
