Obituary

Walter Baker Bruah III, age 85, of Newark, the last baby born on December 31, 1940, in Newark, Ohio, went to his eternal home on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. He was the son of the late Walter Baker and Vera Arlene (Parshall) Bruah II.

His passing has left a void in the hearts of family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him.

After he graduated from Lynnwood High School, Walter spent one year at OSU-Newark while working for Structure Lite and as a farmhand to John Slater and Charlie Arnold. Walter was passionate about helping people. He worked multiple jobs until being hired permanently by The Ohio Bureau of Employment Services where he rose to the position of Chief of Technical Services. Before retiring from the state, Walter began pastoring at Fredonia Baptist Church. During his ministry he also led Bible studies and singalongs in nursing homes. He was a Chaplain at Licking Memorial Hospital and became the “go to” pastor for many funeral homes when needed. He had a rare gift of having a lasting impact on all who crossed his path. Outside of work, Walter found pleasure in photography and music. He was a talented pianist, organist, and banjo player. He enjoyed racing and flying model airplanes. He used his carpentry skills on multiple hurricane recovery mission trips.

He is survived by his daughters, Teresa (Bob) Nuzum and Julie (John) Dorris; grandchildren, Sean (Catherine) Nuzum, Samantha Dorris, and Caleb Dorris; siblings, Rachel (Bruah) Felumlee and Charles Bruah; many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Delora Francis (Beck) Bruah; brother, Thomas Bruah.

A celebration of life honoring the life of Walter B. Bruah will be held from 3-7pm Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N 21st. St, Newark, Ohio 43055. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Walters memory be made to the Hanover’s New Home Masonic Lodge #338, 2403 W High St. NE, Hanover, OH 43055, Hospice of Central Ohio 2269 Cherry Valley Rd, SE, Newark, Ohio 34055, or the Memory Care Unit at Story Point Granville, 1500 Weaver Dr. Granville, Ohio 43023.
