William Joseph "Bill" Gallagher, the son of William Joseph Gallagher (1887-1956) and Anna Marie Todhunter (1902-1994), was born on October 6, 1933 along with his twin, Mary Suzanne "Suzy" (1933-2016). Bill died at Sharon Brooke Assisted Living, leaving this earth to be with his Father in Heaven on Sunday evening, February 18, 2024.

Bill attended grade school at Saint Aloysius Military School and Academy in New Lexington, Ohio. He was a 1951 graduate of Holy Rosary High School in Columbus. After a couple years at Ohio State, Bill did a stint in the US Army, stationed in Washington state 1953-55.

He worked as a research scientist for Battelle Memorial Institute, retiring after 40 years service in 1995. During this time, in 1986, Bill physically built his home that he would live in until moving into assisted living at Sharon Brooke (January 9, 2023). His home served as the host playground for seemingly weekly family and friends fun events that included tennis, swimming and fishing.

In addition to his parents and twin sister, Bill had another sister, Linda Ann (Dr. David Scheetz), (1935-2012) and a grandson, Thomas Joseph "Tommy" Byers III (1985-2005) who preceded him in death. Bill was the last remaining Gallagher of his generation that included 8 aunts/uncles and 26 cousins.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Phyllis, and her two sons, Mark (Rhonda) and David McManus, along with granddaughter Harmony Longstreth and her daughter, great granddaughter Dr. Morgan Longstreth (Max Frankenberry).

Bill is also survived by his two children from an earlier marriage, William Joseph "Bill" (Deborah) and Ann Marie (Tom Byers), along with grandchildren William Joseph "Billy" Gallagher IV and Scott Michael (Tarah) Byers.

Service and burial will be scheduled at a future date this spring at Saint John's Lutheran Church, 6004 Linville Road, Newark.
