William "Bill" Leo Marriott, Sr, age 82, of Newark, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center. He was born in Newark on November 8, 1942, to the late Leo Francis and Betty May (Harger) Marriott.
Bill was a craftsman his whole life. He started learning the shoe repair trade when he was a young teenager. In 1960 Bill was called to serve in the US Army which he proudly did until 1963. After returning home from the Army, he continued working in the shoe repair trade. In the 1970s Bill started Marriott Shoe Repair and later moved into upholstery work, "Marriott Upholstery", which is still in operation to this day. He was a member of Heath First Baptist Church where he served in various capacities for over 30 years, including Deacon, teacher, church council, and bereavement committee.
He is survived by his wife of 3 years, Marcia (Kauffman) Marriott; children, Bill (Lori) Marriott, Jr., Tina (Scott) McLaughlin, Tammy (Patrick) McGaughy; step children, Roger (Suzanne) Conant and Rodney (Laura) Conant; grandchildren, Travis and Kassie Smith, Emily and Chris McGaughy, Brandon and Sarah McLaughlin, Steven, Bryan, Jacob, and Mitchell Conant; great-grandchildren, Maddux, Caleb, Emma, Jaxon, LaRena, Wesley, and Liam; siblings, Jane (Bill) Jones, Donna (Chuck) Roberts, Dorothy Boyles, Wayne Marriott, sister-in-law, Jean Marriott.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 55 years, Beverly Marriott; brother, Jack Marriott.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Monday, January 27, 2025, at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N 21st, St. Newark, Ohio 43055, and Tuesday, January 28, from 10- 11 am at First Baptist Church of Heath, 525 S 30th St, Heath, Ohio 43056. An 11 am funeral service with military honors presented by the Licking County Veterans Alliance will take Tuesday immediately following visitation, Pastor Dave Welsch Officiating. A graveside service at Newark Memorial Gardens will take place at 11 am Wednesday, January 29, 2025. For those wishing to participate in a procession to the cemetery, please be at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home no later than 10:30 am.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of Hospice of Central Ohio at the Selma Markowitz for the compassionate care given to Bill.
