William "Will" Russell Cates, 62, of Newark, died Monday, February 16, 2026 at his home with his family by his side. He was born January 10, 1964 in Louisville, KY to the late Dr. William and Jeanette (Russell) Cates.
Will dedicated over 25 years of faithful service to Honda, where his strong work ethic and commitment were a source of pride. Outside of work, he was a passionate sports fan, always cheering on his beloved Ohio teams with unwavering loyalty. Above all, Will was a devoted Papaw whose greatest joy came from spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Rebecca; children, Joe McHenry, Trey (Shaina) McHenry and Emma Cates; daughter-in-law, April Smith; grandchildren, George, Ezra and Joanna; siblings, Gaynell Hancock, twin brother, Calvin Cates and Layli Keyse; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by triplet brother, Joseph Henry Cates; son, Andrew McHenry; granddaughter, Taylor Rene McHenry; and brothers-in-law, Tracy Keyse and Mike Hancock.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 19, 2026 from 12-2 pm at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st St., Newark where the funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm.
