Obituary

A celebration of Life services for William "Bill" Van Meter, age 72, of Granville passed away on January 10, 2025, at Licking Memorial Hospital after breaking his hip on December 14 and was never really able to recover, but passed away peacefully in the presence of God.

Bill was born on September 13, 1952, to the late Eldon "Gene" and Donna (Wolfe) Van Meter, in Columbus, Ohio.

He graduated from Utica High School, the class of 1970. Bill was always the life of any party and always had a smile for everyone. His greatest love was the outdoors- Hunting, fishing and bragging he found the largest mushrooms, etc. He loved growing up on the farm and loved all animals - farm animals of sheep, cows, pigs, chickens, dogs, and cats. He had other crazy pets like - raccoons, foxes, groundhogs and rabbits. The last few years he got pleasure out of feeding the deer and the birds daily…it got so the deer would show up waiting for him. After being a deer hunter all his life…in the end he just wanted to see them in his yard and enjoy them. He liked ALL kinds of sports and watched them daily on TV…OSU football team, NASCAR races, etc; but always bragged about being a master pool player. Bill and his dad formed the "Van Meter's Express softball team" and they were so proud after winning the State Championship in 1990.

Bill enlisted in the Air Force after graduating high school with his buddies, Joe Bodle and Keith Newhouse, which became known as the "3 Amigos". He later worked with Joe for his construction company, B & B Construction and retired from International Paper.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Susan; children, Sena (Bob) Wingeier, Todd (Amanda) Van Meter; grandchildren, Amber, Robby, Jory and Jaqui; 6 great grandchildren; sister, Sandy (Terry) Evans; his extended family through Susan in PA; and his loving "puppies," Champ and Mattie Mae; and "his kitty," Sammy; lifelong friend, Dave Sandman; numerous extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his infant son, William Charles Van Meter; daughter, Angela (Angie) Lauer-Clarke.

The family would like to thank the ICU staff at LMH and Dr. Nasir, also his personal doctor, Dr. Jason Winterhalter and assistant Ruth.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 PM at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home. His service will follow on Thursday, at 1 PM with Pastor Cory Campbell officiating. The burial will take place in Fredonia Cemetery.
