Obituary

William Reese Wilson

William Reese Wilson, a lifelong resident of Newark, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on February 17, 2025, after a brief illness. William was the son of Willard and Grace Wilson and brother to Judy Lehman.

Born on August 25, 1948, William, known affectionately as Bill, dedicated his life to his family, his community, and his passions. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara.

Bill is survived by his children, Jeffrey Marc (Heather) Wilson and Jennifer Megan Wilson (Stephanie Mizer), granddaughter Hannah (Isaac) Cotterman, and a host of extended family and friends. Bill was a 1966 graduate of Newark High School, attended Ohio University and obtained his bachelor's degree in 1970 from The Ohio State University after proudly putting himself through school.

Bill's professional career was marked by his long-standing commitment to Park National Bank, where he worked diligently for 43 years. He attended banking school at Kent State University and the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. He was also an instructor for the American Institute of Banking (AIB). His dedication and expertise were instrumental in the bank's growth and success. Beyond his professional achievements, Bill was a respected member of the community, serving in various volunteer capacities with Kiwanis, PTA, North Newark Little League and as a board member of the Heath-Newark-Licking County Port Authority since 2000. He and Barbara were members of the Buckeye Lake Yacht Club and Bill served as treasurer for many years at the Moundbuilders Country Club.

Bill loved watching his children play sports and grow into successful professionals. He enjoyed golf, ping pong, and spending time on his beloved Nantucket island in Massachusetts, where he and Barbara spent many cherished vacations, enjoying the nautical scenery and creating lasting memories with their family. He loved animals and enjoyed the company of many pets over the years, including six dogs and six cats.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, with Pastor Wally McLaughlin officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2025, at the funeral home, 985 N. 21st St. Newark.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Licking County Humane Society or charity of choice in his memory.
