Wilma Louise (Keffer) Poorman

Wilma went home to be with her Lord and Savior early on the morning of January 30, 2024. Wilma was born October 21, 1927 near Mt Perry, Ohio to Alvin and Janie (Johnson) Keffer. She graduated from Somerset High School in 1945 and married her high school sweetheart, Paul Poorman on June 8, 1947 at Wesley Chapel. After high school Wilma worked at the Ohio Power Company for 13 years before staying home to raise her children. Then later in life, Wilma worked at State Farm for 11 years before retiring in 1988. Before Paul's death in 2010 they had over 63 years together.

Wilma was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Newark—attending there since 1945. She and Paul were active members of the church and community. Wilma also served as a 4-H leader for many years and was a longtime member of the "High Chair to High School" CCL. In her spare time Wilma enjoyed gardening, sewing, and spoiling her grandchildren.

For over six years Wilma has resided at SharonBrooke Assisted Living Center in Newark; with the last three years in the memory care unit.

Wilma is preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Janie Keffer; 4 brothers (Elmer, Arthur, Floyd and Warren); a sister (Helen Keffer Garrett); and her husband, Paul Poorman. Wilma is survived by her daughter, Patricia Johnson (Steve) of Johnstown; and her son, Dale Poorman (Teresa) also of Johnstown; three granddaughters--Sara Maul, Lauren Atkins (Ben), and Emily Pugh (Josh)—one grandson—Bradford Poorman (Amanda); two step-grandsons—Andy Johnson (Jenn), Seth Johnson (Emily); three great-granddaughters (Elouise, Bailey, and Alice) and three great-grandsons (Hunter, Chase, and Lincoln)

The family would like to thank Rev. Todd Frail from First United Methodist Church for his many visits to Wilma over the years. For the amazing nurses, aides, and staff at SharonBrooke Assisted Living in Newark--there aren't enough words to express the family's gratitude for the love and care you showed Wilma over the years. You truly treat residents like your own family. Special thanks to Amy Twyman and Megan Morris for your support and guidance on this journey the past six years. And thanks to the staff at Hospice of Central Ohio for their help and care this past year.

A private family service will be held.
